Architectural Fee
The architectural fee for your project is determined based on the scope and specifics discussed during our initial meeting. The fee is calculated as per the example below.
Example Calculation:
Percentage x Cost per Square Meter x Final Area of the Project
- 5% (Approved drawings from local authorities.)
- 8% (Approved drawings from local authority and full architectural supervision until completion.)
- R 12,500/sq m (Typical price per square metre for domestic residences.)
These fees provide a starting point and the basis to the appointment fee, concept fee and design development fee. Final submission drawing fee is calculated once the final area is established.
Payment Schedule
Appointment Fee: Payable upon signing/acceptance of the contract. (15% of total fee.)
Concept Fee: A percentage of the remaining balance, payable upon completion of the conceptual design.
Design Development Fee: A percentage of the remaining balance, payable upon completion of design development.
Submission Drawing Fee: A percentage of the remaining balance, payable upon completion of submission drawings (with adjustments made for any changes in the project scope or area).
Additional notes
If the project concludes before the final stage, a pro-rata fee will be calculated based on the work completed up to that point.
Fees for each stage are billed upon completion and are due upon receipt of the invoice.
If payment is delayed, further work on the project will be paused until payment is received.
Final submission drawings will only be released once payment is complete.
Any significant changes to the project after the submission drawing stage that require additional CAD work will be charged at an hourly rate.
Disbursements
In addition to the architectural fees, the client is responsible for covering the following costs:
- Printing and plotting of plans.
- Fees associated with local authorities (e.g., submission fees, connection fees).
- Fees for other necessary professionals (e.g., structural engineers, consultants).
- Any additional requirements such as thermal calculations, if needed by local authorities.
Anticipated timing
- Concept Presentation: Typically delivered within a set number of days after the appointment fee is paid.
- Concept Refinement: Ongoing communication through various channels to finalize the concept.
- Design Development: Generally completed within a few weeks after concept approval.
- Submission Drawings: Finalized within a set number of weeks, depending on the project’s complexity.
These timeframes are flexible and designed to ensure that the project meets your expectations at every stage, while accounting for any unforeseen circumstances.
